Will You Grow?” is the title for this year’s stewardship emphasis for the 2010 ministry support of Blair Road United Methodist Church.

It is an expression of what we believe should happen when God’s people are asked to respond in a Biblical manner to grow in discipleship and stewardship.

In years past, we have measured our stewardship success on whether or not we could underwrite a particular budget. For this year and years to come, we will measure success by how much the people of BRUMC are willing to grow. Our success will be better measured when God’s people grow in relationship with God and respond in faith with their gifts.

Commitment Sunday is November 15, 2009. We are asking members and friends of BRUMC to plan on being in church on this special day when you will be asked to respond with your commitment. After the commitments are received, a budget, or spending plan, will be developed based on those commitments. This is a Biblical approach to stewardship and, in many ways, a demonstration of our faith in our members and friends. It also focuses on the gift being given as a direct result of your relationship with God.

When presented with this plan, the leadership of our church responded enthusiastically and we hope you will, too. It is a change, but we believe it is a healthy change. In fact, it is a natural expansion of our recent Five Practices of a Fruitful Congregation and Spiritual Gifts studies.

How much do you need to grow? That’s between you and God. Prayer should be your focus as you seek the answer to this question. We encourage you to pray daily for the program, for BRUMC and for your growth. Please visit the Prayer Resources page for scriptures and prayers. There are people in our church that can only grow one or two steps and there are others that can grow much more than that. But remember…it’s not how someone else will respond or what the church needs you to do. It is what you need to do in stewardship with the blessings God has given to you – to make an offering that would be pleasing and acceptable to Him.

It is an exciting time in the life of Blair Road United Methodist Church! Will You Grow with us?
